New Obsession, Is That You?
My coffee revelation
Until about 2 weeks ago, I had been completely oblivious to the whole coffee phenomenon. That is, I wasn't really living until 2 weeks ago. Sure every time I stepped into a Starbucks to purchase my coffee-free frappacino I would relish in the rich smell of the coffee infused drinks being made, but it never occurred to me to actually try it. This could partially be attributed to the fact that neither of my parents ever drink coffee and I am more of a cheapskate when it comes to laying down the $3 just to take a risk to try a new drink at Starbucks, especially after I'm quite content with my regular caramel frap.
Stepping out of the comfort zone
So, the other day, I bit the bullet and did it. It was a mixture of my friends wanting coffee, wondering if
the caffeine would help me stay awake for the long senior excursion activities of the night ahead, and wanting to try something new that lead me to this situation. We pulled
in the Jack-In-the-Box drive thru and that's when I said, "what the heck" and ordered the
original iced coffee. The world may have stopped spinning for like 2 seconds when I took the first sip. It was the perfect mix of coffee tasting/aroma, creamy, cold goodness and I was hooked. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the regular size piece of heaven I ordered was gone in about 4 sips. Honestly couldn't have been introduced to the java world with a better introduction.
Help, I'm hooked
This was one of those instances I am so happy I took a risk and stepped out of my comfort zone, as well as grateful that I am not picky at all. Proceeding my first encounter, I decided to return back to the same place my coffee virginity was taken and order the same thing but in the largest possible size, but to my disappointment, only allowed 4 or 5 additional sips. Then I thought, Jack-In-the-Boxes are not that popular around here and I'm not sure if there's even going to be one in Oxford next year, so what in the world am I going to do in order to survive???
Being the coffee amateur that I am, I thought I could go anywhere and order an iced coffee and it would end up looking and tasting exactly like my first, plain and simple. Boy was I wrong. Unless you're crazy about the hardcore coffee taste, whatever you do, DO NOT order plain coffee and ice, it just does not work out well.
I then turned to the only place I knew I could count on while feeling the least amount of judgement but receiving the most assorted answers...Pinterest. I not only found out what an Iced Caramel Macchiato is made out of or that Iced Hazelnut Lattes are a thing, but I also went ham and pinned a whole bunch of copy cat recipes to my food boardthat I plan on trying ASAP. I'm almost afraid next year, our mini fridge might only consist of barista worthy ingredients, but I don't think that'll be a problem.
For now, I think I'll stick with something basic white girl like maybe a Iced Vanilla Latte and eventually venture off into trying to making my own. We'll see, you could just catch me at the local Starbucks, whipping up your fave cup of coffee like a pro barista.
